Royal Gorge of Colorado
On my way back from California, including three National Parks and a Presidential Library, I was making good progress through Colorado. I discovered I could route my trip through Canon City and go to the Royal Gorge. The last time I was there was on my High School Senior Trip 50 years ago! Although suffering from fear of heights, I just had to go. When paying my entrance fee, I told the lady I was not going to drive across. I did walk almost halfway across the bridge but stayed mostly away from the edge. It did bother me as cars would cross and it seemed like the planks were bouncing up loose under me, I let my camera look over the side. I am glad I stopped
Facts: Height: 956 feet above the Arkansas River. Length: 1270 feet. Wood Planks: 1270, relacing 250 yearly. Cables: 2100 strands no. 9 galvanized wire for each "strand".One of world's highest suspension bridges. Built 1929. Enjoy the pictures.
